This course is ideal for students interested in learning about childcare and development. It will help you to learn about the developmental stages from pregnancy and childbirth, through babyhood and the early years. It also explores ways of improving a child's physical, intellectual, mental and social development.
Subjects covered include: understanding child development, exploring the family, parenthood and pregnancy, birth and postnatal care, physical development, intellectual, social and emotional development, learning through play, nutrition and health, caring for a sick child, the family and the community, safety, research and observation skills.
The course includes all study material, which is printed in full colour, your course textbook, Child Development: A Comprehensive Text for GCSE, a detailed guide to study skills, and full tutorial support from your expert personal tutor. The course also includes an exam guide with useful advice and guidance for students preparing to sit the exam.
On successful completion of the course students are awarded a learning curve certificate of course completion and are also well-prepared to sit the GCSE examination.

Our course is composed of 49 easy-to-follow topics. There are 10 tutor-marked assignments and a major project.
Specification: AQA 3561 - one written paper and one substantial piece of coursework. Students can enter for the Foundation or Higher tier. Registering for the Foundation tier enables students to achieve grades C-G, while the Higher tier enables them to achieve a A*-D. Your tutor can help you to decide which tier to enter before you register for the exam.
Students are required to arrange their own examinations and to pay an examination fee. Details of examination dates and examination enrolment deadlines are included in the 'Exam Guide'.
All Learning Curve courses are self-contained and include a core textbook. However, you may find it helpful to read other books too, to give you a broader view of your subject. The Internet is also a great source of research material and you will find references to both further reading and suitable websites throughout your course material.
You can spread the cost of your course over 8 months by choosing our instalment option. When you choose this option you pay the fee in four instalments, one every two months. There is a £20 administration fee if you choose this option.
