This course explores many aspects of biology and we hope students will find it highly relevant to their everyday lives. By the end of the course we hope students will also feel better able to take informed personal decisions about things that involve science, such as health and diet, as well as feeling confident when discussing scientific issues with others.
Subjects covered include: keeping healthy, causes of disease, understanding genetics, the variety of life, Charles Darwin, human evolution, extinction, exploring cells, the difference between plants and animals, understanding food chains, enzymes and their role in the body, homeostasis, transport around the body, blood and circulation, the effect of exercise, how our kidneys function, exploring useful microorganisms, using microorganisms safely.
The course includes all study material, printed in full colour, course textbook, AQA Science: GCSE Biology: Students' Book, a detailed guide to study skills, and full tutorial support from your expert personal tutor. The course also includes an exam guide with useful advice and guidance for students preparing to sit the exam.
On successful completion of the course students are awarded a learning curve certificate of course completion and are also well-prepared to sit the GCSE examinations.
Please note that all Learning Curve courses, including our GCSEs and A'levels, are designed for adult learners and are not suitable for learners under 16 years of age.
Our course is composed of 72 easy-to-follow topics. There are 13 tutor-marked assignments.
Specification: AQA 4411 - three written papers and a practical assessment. Students can enter for the Foundation or Higher tier. Registering for the Foundation tier enables students to achieve grades C-G, while the Higher tier enables them to achieve a A*-D. Your tutor can help you to decide which tier to enter before you register for the exam.
Students are required to arrange their own examinations and to pay an examination fee. Details of examination dates and examination enrolment deadlines are included in the 'Exam Guide'.
All Learning Curve courses are self-contained and include a core textbook. However, you may find it helpful to read other books too, to give you a broader view of your subject. The Internet is also a great source of research material and you will find references to both further reading and suitable websites throughout your course material.
You can spread the cost of your course over 8 months by choosing our instalment option. When you choose this option you pay the fee in four instalments, one every two months. There is a £20 administration fee if you choose this option. Normal instalment price £315 + £20: Deposit - £60; four instalments - £68.75. If booking on-line: £267.75 + £20; deposit - £60; four instalments - £56.93 each. You will only be charged the deposit when you enrol.
